The Jazz Room Fort Lauderdale Concert reviews
Journey, the Doobies, & Dave Mason all still rock
Great and predictable sets were had by all three bands. I thought the sound was fine for the Doobies and Dave, but during The Jazz Room, some songs had sound difficulty - it seemed to me it happened when the bass player approached the drummer - and the lower end just became a deep blur. All bands were great. Looking at posts about the venue, people have complained about the sound.
Dave's set was too short for me. His last album had three really great songs and I would have preferred any one to Pearly Queen - but for a limited set he stayed with what people know.
The Doobies closed with China Grove and Listen to the Music as encores, which was just a terrific high-energy way to go.
The Jazz Room really needs to get over the Steve Perry/Arnel thing. They felt the need to mention Arnel was now the longest-lasting lead singer. He's a great vocalist and really high-energy performer. Just forget about the other guy, OK?
I'd go to see any of these three again in a minute. They still have it and bring back the memories (unlike BTO, but that's a different post).
Fortunately, it didn't rain during the concert. Another item on the venue: plenty of seats were wet from roof leaks as mentioned, an issue at this venue. So if you go and there is rain - be prepared.
